Monitoring of venous oxygen saturation using a novel vibratory oximetry sensor

Presents the framework and initial findings for a novel methodology capable of noninvasively monitoring tissue oxygen consumption in peripheral extremities. The presented method and sensor system utilize a carefully controlled perturbation algorithm that both induces venous volumetric pulsations and provides a method for optically differentiating and localizing venous and arterial blood flow. Initial experimental results are provided demonstrating the potential utility of the method.
