The invention relates to an overhead wire grounding fault locating method for the power distribution network. An overhead wire grounding fault detecting system for the power distribution network comprises power distribution wires, a command center and grounding detecting devices. A plurality of pylons are arranged on 10kV distribution wires between transformer substations at intervals, and the grounding detecting devices are uniformly arranged on the power distribution wires between the transformer substations. The overhead wire grounding fault locating method includes steps of (1) grounding of the power distribution wires; (2) unbalancing of zero-sequence current; (3) transmitting signals to the command center through a signal transmitting module by a processor; (4) displaying at the command center; (5) acquiring accurate fault position. The system adopted in the detecting method is simple in structure, low in equipment cost, easy to erect and implement and accurate to detect and judge. Besides, interferences of branch circuits and the like are avoided, locating and judging time can be effectively shortened, labor is saved, fault maintenance time is greatly shortened, and consumption and loss of power equipment are reduced.
