Event identification in hybrid control systems

Hybrid control systems can arise when a discrete event system (DES) is used to supervise the behaviour of continuous-state systems. In this context, the DES supervisor manipulates symbols which are representative of events occurring within the plant's state space. An important issue in the design of such control systems concerns conditions under which such symbolic manipulations are sufficient to adequately supervise the plant. This paper provides a method for identifying such supervisable events whose computational complexity is polynomial in plant complexity.<<ETX>>
