Recent advances in addiction research

Starting with prevention, London (pp. 207±211) notes that approaches that combine environmental and behavioural interventions with educational campaigns are often most effective, and emphasizes that measurable changes in outcome can now be documented. Clearly, the effectiveness of various approaches, alone or in combination, is ideally suited to controlled outcomes research, which must account not only for the intervention strategy, but also for the selection and evaluation of outcome variables.
