URANS and DES computations of the aerodynamics in an A- 320 aircraft cabin regarding thermal comfort criteria

Detached-Eddy (DES) and unsteady Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (URANS) computations with Boussinesq-Approximation and including heat radiation modelling are presented for two fundamental ventilation concepts of an A-320 Airbus aircraft cabin model consisting of thirteen cabin segments. Various different displacement ventilation configurations an innovative and promising concept where the air enters the cabin close to the floor of the domain and leaves it close to the ceiling as well as the traditional mixed ventilation configuration approach are investigated in terms of various comfort criteria of the passengers.
