The full-scope transition from paper-based work processes to work processes essentially conducted using information technology (IT) for the management, operation, monitoring and maintenance of power plants brings a whole series of benefits. The economic benefits have in each case to be quantified for the concrete circumstances and expenditures of a particular power plant. The transition is a far-reaching change process for the entire power plant and can be achieved with a step-by-step concept. The requisite time frames are between one and five years. Statutory and legal prerequisites have to be established. At the present point in time, the paperless power plant can be implemented in terms of its technical and organizational aspects in selected advanced power plants. The concept is not only a technical-organizational task but also requires a rethinking process on the part of the entire personnel and all managerial staff. The motivation of all those involved is the key to success.
