By sharing the source and processing electronics, it firstly helps to cut the cost per sensor, thus improves the competitiveness of optical fiber based sensors against conventional ones. Secondly, it reduces the overall weight and enhances the robustness of the system, which is essential in many applications where optical fiber sensors are considered advantageous.
