An FPGA-based 5 Gbit/s D-QPSK modem for E-band point-to-point radios

An FPGA based 5 Gbit/s differential-QPSK modem (modulator and demodulator) is presented. In the modulator design, a novel parallel prefix layer (PPL) structure is proposed for high data rate differential encoding. Also, an improved demodulator structure is proposed, which minimizes the number of adjustable parameters and thus is suitable for high data rate applications. The modem has been verified experimentally by error-free transmission of 5 Gbit/s data stream. This modem solution is targeted for radio communications over E-band.
