Functional Disability 5 Years after Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

This prospective, longitudinal study is an extension of the seminal work by Herridge,1 which sheds light into the physical and psychological impairment, and the increased costs of healthcare services associated with critical illness following survival from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This benchmark paper stresses the need for family-centred, long-term rehabilitation after a prolonged critical illness. Level of evidence: 2C (Outcome/follow-up study)
