A Prototype Design of Signal Phase and Timing Broadcast System in Signalized Intersections

The safety and efficiency of signalized intersection traffic will be effectively improved, if the drivers entering the intersections can get the signal status in time. Driving conditions optimization based on signal status can also save energy and reduce emission, energy and wear of tires and pavement. Based on joint experimental plan of net of vehicle between Tongji University and DENSO in Japan, the experimental platform of vehicle-infrastructure integration system based on Wi-Fi in Tongji was improved utilizing the WSU (Wireless Safe Unit) equipment. The equipment was based on DSRC so as to improve the real-time of information transmission. A prototype design of signal phase and timing broadcast system in signaled intersection was designed and a preliminary experimental plan of system was established too. The follow-up works, such as optimization of algorithms, determination of active area, fault-tolerant mechanism and realization of the system will be studied.
