Influence of gradation on anti-skidding performance of asphalt pavement

In order to study the influence of aggregate gradation on anti-skidding performance of asphalt mixture, five kinds of asphalt mixture of different gradation with different curve’s strend and maximal aggregate size are chosen to carry out stimulation tests for studying the anti-skidding characteristic and its variational rules. Tests results indicate that the content of aggregate coarser than 4.75 mm and maximal size play an important role in the anti-skidding performance. It is helpful to introduce the conceptions of preference point and forbidden zone of Superpave into the gradation design, which can keep the balance between anti-skidding performance and durability of asphalt pavement. When the maximal aggregate size is selected, its thickness and temperature should be taken into account.
