Design of non-directed infrared links for high-speed wireless networks

Summary form only given. We describe the advantages and disadvantages of non-directed infrared communications, outline the technical challenges to achieving speeds near 100 Mb/s, and summarize design strategies to counter them. We also describe preliminary tests of an experimental 50-Mb/s link.
