An expert system for the prediction of total vehicle and road operating costs in developing countries

The results of field work on road deterioration in Tanzania and of soil bin laboratory work on rut formation are outlined. The development of an expert system to predict total road and vehicle costs is described. Validation of and results from the program are given. It is concluded that earth road maintenance is a continuing problem and that the role of agricultural vehicles may increase.
