MAC layer broadcast algorithm in Ad Hoc networks with directional antennas

The broadcast algorithm in directional-transmission and directional-reception Ad Hoc networks (DD Ad Hoc network) is studied in this paper. Applying traditional network layer broadcast algorithms in the DD Ad Hoc networks will cause the problem of long delay. Our research aims at solving the problem and utilizes the reservation sub-frame in the D-TDMA MAC protocol of DD Ad Hoc networks to quicken the delivery of broadcast packets. Nodes will inform neighbors the broadcast transmission in the following reservation slots after it is informed in certain reservation slot. Forwarding of broadcast packet will be scheduled without waiting for receiving it from its parent node. Simulations reveal that compared to the performance of planting traditional network layer broadcast algorithm into DD Ad Hoc network, the broadcast packet could be transmitted to all the node more quickly by occupying smaller transmission slots through our MAC layer broadcast algorithm.
