The architecture of drug discovery

In this chapter an architectural framework of the drug discovery process is developed. Part 1 discusses basic features of drug discovery by analyzing two sets of philosophical terms, i.e. basic-applied and rational-empirical, including art and serendipity, used in the pharmaceutical sector (2.2.), and by presenting (2.3.) the view of cognitive science on scientific creativity. Subsequently, some basic features of the drug discovery process will be analysed again (2.4).
