Error free all-optical demultiplexing using a chalcogenide glass fibre based nonlinear optical loop mirror

Error free all-optical demultiplexing using a chalcogenide glass fibre based nonlinear optical loop mirror (C-NOLM) is successfully demonstrated at speeds of 50 Gbit/s. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first bit error rate measurement to use chalcogenide glass fibre as an efficient nonlinear material. The nonlinearity of chalcogenide glass fibre is /spl sim/2 orders higher than that of silica glass fibres: this realises small, stable all-optical demultiplexers.
