2/spl times/20 Gbit/s, 3500 km regenerated WDM soliton transmission with all-optical Kerr fibre modulation

Regeneration through Kerr fibre phase modulation is proposed and applied for the first time to wavelength-multiplexed soliton signals. Periodic regeneration by Kerr fibre modulators without the use of guiding filters and dispersion management is shown to increase the error-free distance in 2/spl times/20 Gbit/s WDM soliton transmission up to 3500 km.
