Coordination and Communication

This chapter is about the interrelationship between processes of coordination and communication in an economy. Economics as a theoretical perspective focuses on the explanation of processes of coordination between demand and supply decisions of individual subjects. Sociology as a theoretical perspective, however, focuses on the explanation of processes of communication between the principal groups that constitute society, including the economy. It will be shown that coordination will be less efficient in cases of ineffective communication. On the other hand, it is difficult to communicate fruitfully when the processes of coordination are inefficiently organised.
