Akute vaskuläre Aphasien

The pathophysiology, neurobiology, and neuropsychology of acute vascular aphasias are described and differences to chronic aphasia syndromes discussed. Attempts at classification of acute aphasias are unsatisfactory. Severity of language disorders allows only for trivial prognostic predications. Initially mild aphasias carry a generally good, initially severe a variable prognosis. Trends towards outcome reveal themselves after 4 to 6 weeks. We present characteristic symptom constellations with generally positive outcome.
