Measurement and current state assessment

This chapter reviews the process of measuring the levels of data quality with respect to the dimensions of data quality. The chapter focuses on the performance and current state assessment that is used as an input to the data quality requirements defining process. The process of mapping the information processing environment into an information chain is based on map usage to target the insertion of measurements of the different data quality dimensions. The chapter then examines each of the dimensions of data quality, deriving measurement procedures. Finally, it takes a look at the consolidation of the measurements into a single report, correlating the occurrence of low data quality to the actual costs associated with it, thus providing the input to the next step, the definition of requirements.
