Virtual reality technology is applied to the development of an interactively visualizing 3D monitoring module for automatic hydrological systems.First,a 3D model of dams and observation stations is built based on CAD data and pictures. Then, the scene building software is used to generate the terrain database based on DEM data, with the models located on the terrain. Finally, the real—time rendering software OpenSceneGraph is applied to render the scene,by which large terrain modeling and fluid state simulation are realized. The effect of application is satisfactory.
