The construct validity of trait‐based measures of interpersonal competence

Measures of traits conceptually constitutive of interpersonal competence were selected and administered to 427 subjects. Factor analytic and intercorrelation results indicate that composure and altercentrism dimensions are useful metaphors for integrating not only the traits of interpersonal competence, but also a broad expanse of literature concerning interpersonal orientations and relational dialectics.
