A UNIFIED APPROACH TO THE MODEL‐ASSISTED DETERMINATION OF PROBABILITY OF DETECTION

The transfer function and full model assisted approaches have each been used for determining Model Assisted Probability of Detection (MAPOD). This paper shows that these can be viewed as a part of a single, unified MAPOD approach in which either experiment or physics‐based theoretical models (previously validated by experiment) are used to extend the information gained in empirical measurements to new situations. Included are a discussion of the MAPOD philosophy, a unified protocol which includes the previous approaches, and the interpretation of three previously conducted examples in the context of this unified protocol.
