An enhanced degree computationless modified Euclid's (E-DCME) algorithm for Reed-Solomon (RS) decoders is proposed. The algorithm does not require the degree computation and comparison circuits. In addition, the E-DCME algorithm can reduce the number of basic cells and the latency to solve the key equation since it uses new initial conditions. The E-DCME architecture using the Samsung 0.18 µm cell library consists of only 18 000 gates.
