Modeling of Overlay Mode for Device-to-Device Inband Communications

Device-to-Device (D2D) is a technology that allows the direct communication between the units of a Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A) network, allowing the forms of coverage to be more cost-effective, more efficient and flexible. Although the use of D2D is quite promising, there are still several challenges. Mobility is undoubtedly one of challenges to be considered, specially when we are interested in evaluating the network performance during its occurrence. Thus, this paper proposes a model to evaluate the performance of the D2D mechanism in LTE-A networks, by updating its network parameters in occurrence of mobility. The proposed modeling was implemented through the Python language. A performance evaluation was carried out and important results were obtained in relation to the percentage of users served by the variation of density and range of base station and D2D devices. In addition, an analysis of influence of devices speed variation was carried out.
