Summary
Growth studies conducted with weanling domesticated giant rats showed that cassava peels, yam peels, plantain peels, maize chaff, cocoyam and yam tubers could not sustain satisfactory growth when fed alone. Digestibility of nutrients in these feed stuffs were generally low except for crude fibre, nitrogen-free extrac tives and energy. Maize chaff showed significantly higher values (P< 0.05) than other feeds. The retention of energy was fairly low on all rations, while negative nitrogen retention was observed in all feeds except cocoyam tuber.
RESUMEE
