Arthrodesis—Talonavicular Joint

Indications in the adult for arthrodesis of the talonavicular joint are (1) severe hyperpronation or pes planus; (2) rheumatoid arthritis of the talonavicular joint with marked foot eversion and valgus knee stress; and (3) ruptured posterior tibial tendon with severe hyperpronation and planus. With tourniquet control and after sterile preparation of the foot and lower leg, the talonavicular joint is widely exposed from the dorsum by using the anterior approach to the ankle joint incision through the anterior tibial tendon sheath previously described' but with a longer distal incision (Fig. 1).
