Stability properties of shallow granular flows

We study the stability of shallow layers of granular materials considered as Bagnold fluids (the fluid with power law exponent n = 2) in two cases: (i) inertia terms are negligible and (ii) inertia terms are important. The linear analysis of the governing equations in the two cases demonstrates stable and unstable regimes, respectively. The evolution of some finite amplitude disturbances is solved numerically.
