Survival of patients in a phase I clinic: The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center experience

11066 Background: The survival of patients treated on Phase I clinical trials in oncology remains undefined. The objectives of this study were to determine the overall survival of patients seen in our Phase I clinic for enrollment on an investigational study, and to evaluate factors predicting survival. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of consecutive patients who presented for consultation to the Phase I Program from 9/04 through 12/06. We assessed presenting characteristics, treatment and overall survival. Survival time was measured from the time of initial consultation until death or last follow-up. Kaplan-Meier method was used, and the log-rank test was employed to compare the difference in survival between different patient prognostic groups. Cox proportional hazard models were utilized for multivariate analysis. Results: Two hundred patients were identified. The median age was 58 years (range, 12 to 85 years), and 57% were men. ECOG performance status was 0 in 41.0%, 1 in 52.5...
