On RTT Scaling in H-TCP

This note discusses the impact of RTT scaling in the proposed H-TCP modifications to the additive increase element o f the TCP AIMD congestion control algorithm [1]. To provide a baseline for comparison, we first detail some fundamental characteristics of both the standard TCP algorithm and the basic H-TCP algorithm without RTT scaling. The impact of RTT scaling is then discussed. Since the proposed HTCP modifications are to the AIMD component of the TCP congestion control algorithm, leaving changes to slow star t as a separate issue, our focus in this document is primarily on the behaviour of long-lived flows.
