A CMOS non-coherent channel selective IR-UWB transceiver for WPAN applications

This paper presents a 3.1–5 GHz IR-UWB CMOS transceiver designed using 0.18μm CMOS technology. The LNA stage includes a frequency tunable load and digitally controlled notch filter allowing the three channel selection. To remove the bulky and lossy external balun, the receiver contains a single to differential circuit embedded in LNA stages. The transmitter adopts a pulse generator using the switched LC VCO. The pulse width can be controlled from 0.5n to 6ns. The simulated noise figure of receiver is less than 3 dB and the consumed power is 45 mW. The transmitter achieves the differential output swing range of 2V under 50Ω load and the average power consumption is 1.8mW at the 1Mbps data rate.
