Numerical simulation for dynamic characteristics of 3D flow during shiplock filling process

The shiplock filling and emptying process is the key tache.Ensuring the normal operation of shiplock mainly depends on filling and emptying system design and its core lies in studying on hydrodynamics of filling and emptying system.Using RNG k-model for turbulence flow,based on VOF method,the numerical simulation for dynamic characteristics of 3D flow in a whole concentrated filling and emptying system with energy dissipation room and grating holes under the normal operation condition were conducted by using dynamic mesh technology for the valve and the dynamic characteristics of 3D flow in shiplock chamber were investigated and analyzed. In addition, the computational formula for velocity distribution uniformity on lock chamber cross-section was put forward. According to the comparison of water level, discharge and velocity, the simulation results are in good agreement with the data obtained in model tests. Therefore, this simulation results not only are the powful addition for model tests, but also can provide reliable scientific basis for filling and emptying system design and the simulation method is effective research way for shiplock hydrodynamics.
