Sampling Methods: Exercises and Solutions

knowledge of statistics or design. The presentation style is clear and easy to follow, and each chapter concludes with a concise summary. Presented concepts are demonstrated with examples and diagrams to enhance students’ understanding. Although the material is mostly elementary, more advanced issues are discussed in special sections labeled “additional information” or “complications.” Overall, I was very pleased with the clarity and accuracy of this book. A limitation of the book is the absence of hands-on calculations and practice exercises. On the other hand, the accompanying Web site offers additional resources for instructors, such as test questions, downloadable figures and tables, and sample SPSS datasets. Also, the statistical tables for some tests are limited to small samples (e.g., n = 20 per group), but this is unlikely to cause problems in most courses. Overall, this is a well written text that provides an initial introduction to design and statistical analysis in the behavioral sciences. It would be appropriate as a core textbook for high school or first year undergraduate introductory statistics course.
