Coronary artery disease related to atherosclerosis is frequent. It may remain silent during many years. The adult atherosclerotic plaque is responsible for the symptoms of stable angina pectoris. The complications of the plaque (rupture, erosion) will lead to coronary thrombosis and subsequently to myocardial infarction and/or sudden death.
