Estimation of circuit component values in buck converter using efficiency curve

This paper proposes an estimation method of the circuit component values in the power stage by fitting the power conversion efficiency curve of the step-down DC/DC power supply circuit with the measured values by using the theoretical loss equations. The optimum phase compensation circuit design in the step-down DC / DC power supply circuit using the voltage mode control and the current mode control requires the circuit components values used for the power stage. However, the DC resistance value of the FET, the equivalent series resistance of the inductor and the capacitor as well as switch turn on/off time are very small, and hence these values are difficult to measure when they are mounted on the power supply circuit. The proposed method here enables their estimation, and we present their theoretical foundations and verification with measurement of the actual circuit.
