A real-time embedded vision system for Multi-touch operation

Multi-touch technology has been widely applied in many areas include entertainment and service industry. However, current commercial multi-touch system suffers from the high price and power cost and large volume. In this paper, a real-time embedded system is designed and implemented, using ARM-DSP architecture. In order to achieve real-time performance in embedded system, TMS320C64x+ DSP kernel is used for image processing and DSPLink protocol is adopted to communicate between DSP and ARM kernel. An DSP-specified optimized image processing algorithm is also designed and implemented. Experiments have showed the efficacy and efficiency of proposed algorithm and system, and the processing time is dramatically decreased to real-time on the proposed embedded system, make real-time multi-touch system available.
