Hierarchical Timed Coloured Petri-Net Based Approach to Analyze and Optimize Medical Treatment Process

An optimized streamline medical treatment process is the key to operate a hospital efficiently and effectively. An approach of modeling and optimizing the medical treatment process was proposed using the Hierarchical Timed Coloured Petri net (HTCP-net). Founded on the HTCP-net based medical treatment process model, CPN Tools, a Hierarchical Timed Coloured Petri net simulation tool, was adopted to evaluate the outer and inner performances of hospitals, such as patients’ average waiting time and resource utilization. According to the results, the service efficiency and service quality of hospitals could be improved by applying the methods of process redesign and optimization like combining tasks and integrating resources.
