Effects of eccentricity of load or compression on the buckling and post-buckling behaviour of flat plates

Abstract A method of examining the behaviour of plates subjected to either an eccentric compression system or to an eccentrically applied load is outlined. The term compression, as used here, signifies end displacement. The loading in both cases is assumed to be applied through rigid bars so that the plate ends do not warp. It is shown that the case of eccentric loading is completely different from that of eccentric compression.
