A unified approach to transform-based FIR filter banks with special regard to perfect reconstruction systems

A uniform description of transform-based FIR (finite impulse response) filter-banks in general is presented. Both the derivation of the channel impulse responses and the basic principles for designing new efficient implementations are addressed. It is shown that the overall properties of the corresponding analysis-synthesis systems can be described and compared that way without explicit knowledge about the transforms used as kernel. The methods presented are used to classify systems of current interest and to extend previously known results on perfect reconstruction FIR filter-banks to a wider range of systems. It is shown that perfect reconstruction systems can be built around any regular transform.<<ETX>>
