An Examination of Statistical Software Packages for Categorical Data Analysis Using Exact Methods

This article reviews three statistical software packages that are devoted completely or partly to analyzing categorical data using exact methods. The three packages are StatXact, LogXact, and Stata. Only Windows versions of these packages are reviewed. The packages differ in their target audiences and capabilities for categorical data analysis using exact methods. They are examined according to criteria that should be of interest to statisticians, researchers, and data analysts who need to perform categorical data analysis. Recommendations regarding these software packages are provided.
