The purpose of this study was to analyze recognition about small detached house and need for planning house according to family life cycle change. Rate of single detached house is under 10% before 2008, but, in 2011 it increased over 12%. Lack of land because of population concentration phenomenon in metropolitan area and major regions increased interest living in small houses. And one of reasons that cause most residential moves are changing family life cycle. There were two study methods in this study. First, personal interview with small detached house residents. Second, questionnaire survey to persons on various stages of family life cycle. The result of interview showed residents pointed out because of the space of planning of the apartment was uncomfortable they moved to the current small detached house. They had interest in management their housing directly. In the survey, major reasons for want to live a small detached house were natural environment such as gardening, having yard. Raising pets and remodeling possibilities were next reasons. Many people wanted to live a single detached house at any stage. But most of respondents preferred to live a small detached house after launching children stage according to decrease family members. And the solution of deteriorating housing was critical to live continuously in old ages.
