Formation of Ion Exchanged Cu:LiTaO3 Waveguides and Their Investigations

The possibility is found of Cu:LiTaO3 waveguides forming by ion exchange technique in salt melts at temperatures below the Curie point of lithium tantalate. By the complex studies of doped layers some regularities are established and specific features of two probable types of exchange processes in X-, Y-, and Z-cut plates of crystals: Cu+ ⇄ Li+ and Cu2+ ⇄ 2 Li2+.
