A Gateway to the Network: International Standards for Multilingual Lexical Resources

In this paper we concentrate on the current position of the ISLE Computational Lexicon Working Group (CLWG), whose activities aim at defining a general schema for a multilingual lexical entry (MILE), as the basis for a standard framework for multilingual computational lexicons. The overall structure of the MILE will be illustrated, with particular attention to those aspects of the MILE that are specifically designed to meet the requirements for the development and sharing of interlingua based lexical resources. Finally, as a casestudy, we will also consider the architecture of the UNL master dictionary, and we will argue that the content and structure of UNL multilingual lexical resources can be nicely mapped onto the MILE modules.
