PREDICTION AND CONTROL OF FLEXURAL CRACKING IN REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS

THE RESEARCH WORK ON CRACKING IN REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS CARRIED OUT AT THE CEMENT AND CONCRETE ASSOCIATION, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, ENGLAND, IS DESCRIBED. IT IS CONCLUDED FROM THE TEST DATA THAT THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS CANNOT BE ADEQUATELY EXPLAINED BY ANY OF THE THEORIES SO FAR PROPOSED TO DESCRIBE THE MECHANISM OF CRACKING. A STUDY OF THE PROBLEM WAS THEREFORE MADE WHICH LEAD TO THE FORMULATION OF A MORE GENERAL THEORY WHICH IS SHOWN TO AGREE WELL WITH THE OBSERVED BEHAVIOR. /ACI/
