Design and Development of Three-Zone Distance Relay Protection Scheme at MATLAB Platform

This paper presents an innovative scheme to identify zone of fault occurrence in transmission line of power systems. Traditionally, three-zone protection schemes are used to locate and to island faulty section from the line. During the outage of one of the transmission lines, overloading condition may arise which may cause maloperation of the distance relay employed in the scheme. In pursuit of developing a proper distance relay protection scheme of transmission line with contingency resilience a new dz./dt technique has been implemented in this work. The MATLAB Simulink modeling of the distance protection scheme has been standardized with the help of a numerical relay ADR239A, and some encouraging results have been found.
