Erosion in the Mediterranean lands: A reconsideration of pattern, process and methodology.

Six phases are suggested for the progress of our understanding of Mediterranean and especially Greek erosional processes during the Holocene, since the pathfinding publication in 1969 of Vita-Finzi's The Mediterranean Valleys. The relative contribution of climatic and anthropogenic factors is reassessed, and particular emphasis given to the role of extreme events in the landscape within sequences of punctuated equilibrium.
