An Introduction to the Journal of Physical Activity and Health

Do we really need another journal on physical activity and health? Our answer today surely is “yes” and for two important reasons. First, we think the current supply of useful data on exercise for health exceeds the ability to publish them in existing journals, as all of us well know. Second, under the able hands of the present co-editors, Steven N. Blair and James R. Morrow, Jr., we confidently expect to receive quarterly issues of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health that will keep us current with recent developments on physical activity for health. In starting a new journal it seems important to explain its purpose and describe whence it has come and where it intends to go. Accordingly, we begin by giving a short account of evidence to support the proposition that a physically active and fit way-of-life promotes good health and extends longevity.
