Mathematical modeling of tricalcium silicate hydration. II. Hydration sub-models and the effect of model parameters

Abstract Further details are reported for a previously developed mathematical model for the hydration of tricalcium silicate. The model is based on conceptual models for the different stages of hydration. Sub-models are given which consider the effects of the particle size, thickness of the barrier layer, and diffusivities through the hydrate layers. Model predictions were consistent with experimental data.
