A vehicle includes a starter motor, an engine having an output, which is mechanically coupled with the starter motor, a gear having an input and an electrical machine that is mechanically coupled to the transmission input. The vehicle further includes a clutch that is configured for mechanically coupling the electric machine and the output of the engine, and at least one controller. The at least one controller is programmed to initiate on the basis of the driver demands an engine start. The controller is further configured to release pressure to the clutch for the engine start, when an exposure by the driver under a calibratable torque value, or to release the starter motor for the engine starting, when the demand by the driver via a calibratable torque value. The controller may latch the clutch in response to that the rotational speed of the engine is approximately equal to the speed of the electric machine to the output of the engine.
