Bit error rate based link adaptation for GSM

This paper investigates a link adaptation algorithm based on channel quality heuristics, which are extracted from the GSM transmission chain at the output of the equaliser. The aim is to take change of code decisions as the bit error rate crosses a given threshold. A triggering algorithm which takes the heuristics as input is proposed, and its performance is assessed in terms of probability of mode success and change of mode rate.
